Born in Johannesburg of humble beginnings, master craftsman Sid Forman established the company Sid Forman over sixty years ago, as one of the many successful ventures in his life. Sid Forman is a third generational legacy of quality designers and master craftsman.
Forman, himself, is known as a master goldsmith, an artist, designer and jeweller. His work evidences a finely orchestrated, artistic approach to creating gold and bronze objets d’art, jewellery, painting and sculpture. Sid’s artistic ability was evident from early on in his childhood having painted his first masterpiece at age five and displaying phenomenal ability to create, with only the use of his hands and the limited tools available.
Numerous awards, both nationally and internationally bear testimony to a creative genius in a wide range of mediums from, gold, bronze, steel, wood, and marble. It is evident throughout his work, that Forman was heavily inspired by the natural world, his surroundings and all that resides within them.
Another aspect of Sid Forman’s company lies within skills development of young South African designers. He is known to have judged various competitions and mentored in apprenticeship programmes for aspiring designers and artists. Sid Forman has trained many students under its name, and continues to endeavour to contribute to this sector today by means of the GDP (Graduate Development Program) hosted by the MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority).
The late Sid Forman lived with his wife, Lorraine, in Israel after many successful business years in South Africa, before passing on May 26th 2019. Lorraine, wife of Sid, contributed heavily to the success of Sid Forman Manufacturing Jewellers with control of all Marketing and PR related matters.
The legacy of Sid continue's to live on in the company he started and in the industry he innovated decades earlier.
